Black, White, and Red

Ah. The cake that I have been dying to post. I'd like to introduce you to Alyssa's Bat-Mitzvah cake.
Top (6") and bottom(12") tiers with swirly design, and the middle(9") tier "quilted". Red velvet cake with cream-cheese (patooie!) icing.

For a real "wow" effect and accent, RED fondant roses. =)
A LOT of red roses. But thats ok. I absolutely loved making this cake, and how it came out. Very proud of it. I think Alyssa liked it too! ^_^
This cake was a challenge, between all the roses, the royal icing not acting very royal, and that scary as hell delivery, but I am super proud of myself for this one.
Till next time.

Hi 2011!!

Hi guys! Long time no talk, huh? Wow. I promise I'm not dead or moving or anything else. I've just been super busy and while I have the patience to make 100 fondant roses (teehee, thats a later post), I have barely any patience for websites. But hey! I'm trying. So, for now, here is a baby shower cake I did last year that I haven't posted yet. Unfortunately I only have two pictures for now, but I may have some other ones on my old phone. I just gotta check.
It was a 3 tier chocolate fudge cake. Everything is edible, including the bow and the baby booties.
"S" for Sophia. <3
Loved how this cake turned out, and even more so that I found matching wrapping paper for the cake board!

See you guys soon!

Bridal Shower!

Hey guys! Sorry for disappearing yet again! But at least its only been a month, right? I'm getting better, I promise! Anywho, here is a cake I did back in May (so I'm mildly behind...) for a bridal shower.

It was a pretty simple cake. Two tiers, 6 and 8 inches.

Scroll/swirly design and stripes.

Dasies and roses. <3

What flavor? Chocolate. Like, a lot of chocolate. Like two layers of fudge cake and a layer of fudge brownie. With fudge filling. It was for a bridal shower full of women, what?

This was back when I used an uncrusting buttercream before covering in fondant....yikes! But I'm happy with how it turned out. =]

Until next time (which hopefully will be within the next few days) !

Are you ready for some...Hockey?!

Wow. Procrastination is something, huh? A lot of posts to come really soon, but right now...
Max's Hockey Cake!!!!!
It was a four tier marble cake with fudge filling. The tiers were 14", 12", 10", and 8". The occasion was Max's Bar Mitzvah (congrats!!!).
Here is the topper of the cake, the NHL logo, but with "MHL" for "Max's Hockey League". Cute huh? Its made out of fondant. Thats right. FONDANT. Not gumpaste!!! My dad, (the super cool and reliable delivery guy/poppa bear) and I were praying to the cake gods that it would dry in time to stand on top.

The top tier represented a goalie net, where I made a little fondant figurine of Max himself, in full goalie gear! Sorry for the blurry picture. I was in a bit of a rush...
The second tier was representing the hockey "field" (?).

The third tier represented the audience in the bleachers! I made little 2d people wearing red, yellow, and black, the colors of Max's team, the Golden Wolves!
(Bonus points if you know who these four people are! ;-] )

Over all, it was definitely a challenge, but so much fun to make. It was the biggest cake I've ever made AND the fastest cake I've ever made. Usually I take 4-5 days for baking and decorating with up to a week in advance for figurines and toppers, but I did this entire cake (baking and all) between Friday night after work (7PMish?) to Sunday Morning (2AMish?). Super happy with the result, and I think Max (and Nanci!!) were too!

See you guys soon!

Police Cupcakes!

So, a while ago (hooray procrastination!) I was asked to make cupcakes for Telecommunications Appreciation Week at the Medley Police Department. I decided to make little fondant police penguins for the occasion!

Along with the penguins, I made little radios, and computers.

This particular computer had a "Farmville" scene painted on it, cause when the world doesn't need saving, crops need harvesting. :-)

I also made a few with just some sprinkles.

The cupcakes were Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting (which has NO STABILITY WHATSOEVER!) My cupcake swirls flattened out, I'm lucky my ridges at least stayed. Ah well, they tasted amazing, so I'm happy.
Happy (belated) Telecommunications Week!

Happy Easter!

So this cake is a three layer chocolate/vanilla cake with chocolate filling. All the decorations are made with fondant or butter cream.

Hi!

Ah yes, the basket weave. First time ever doing it, really happy with the result. Ended up running out of butter cream on the last row- which was SO annoying, so thats why there are random eggs jutting out of the side of the cake (shown below, to the right).

There was also a fondant handle that said "Happy Easter", but the Florida humidity got to it and....I don't want to talk about it. Who needs a handle anyway?

Happy Easter everyone!

Wedding Party!

Woo. Not much to say other than Oriental Trading is going down. This thing that they sell and call a "cake topper" is most certainly not a cake topper. Its hell. Solid glass hell.

Here is the back of the cake. All the silver swirls were hand painted. And the front. With that beautiful, elegant, wondrous topper.
